This residence was designed and built by one of Frank Lloyd Wright's master builders, Harold Turner.
Ceilings and walls are constructed of rare pecky cypress boards, with other interior walls of brick. The floor is a concrete slab with integral radiant heating. There are no traditional stud walls or floor joists that might easily conceal modern mechanical services.
The addition a central air conditioning was requested by the owner. JWDesign devised a plan to utilize existing chases and openings in the concrete slab and brick walls to seamlessly integrate a new system.
The removal of layers of previous renovations and repairs made it apparent that additional pecky cypress would be required. We located a supply of the wood in Ohio, and arranged for transportation of the source’s entire supply to the site. The boards were custom milled to match existing conditions, perfectly replicating the original wall finish. The slate floor was refinished and sealed.
