Restoration

JW Design recently completed a renovation project of multiple interior spaces in the historic Rackham Building at Wayne State University. The building, designed by Harley Ellington and Day, was completed in 1941 and is now listed in the National Registry of Historic Sites.

The restoration included the second floor library, adjacent rooms and the mezzanine. Art deco railings, millwork of fine craftsmanship and painted details were brought back to their original luster. Lighting and mechanical systems were thoroughly updated. The building now presents a stunning 2-story presentation space while the mezzanine hosts a serene study and research area.
